The Literacy Campaign for Monterey County together with Hartnelll College, First 5 Monterey, Monterey Health Department WIC, Monterey County Probation Department, Monterey County Head Start, Monterey County Office of Education Migrant Program Region XV!, American Heart Association, Network for Healthy California Monterey County, Monterey County Free Libraries and Alisal Union School District will offer a free parent conference on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Hartnell College, 411 Central Ave. Registration 9:00 a.m. Conference from 10 to 4 p.m.
The conference targets parents of children 0-8 years old and it’s designed to support and enrich the efforts of the Early Childhood Development Initiative (ECDI) of the Monterey County Children’s Council, and the “Cradle to Career” initiative of the California State University, Monterey Bay.
The conference interactive sessions will focus on increasing awareness and developing skills of parents to (1) prepare their children for school readiness, (2) reduce summer learning loss, (3) reduce absenteeism, (4) help their child read at grade level by the end of third grade, and (5) increase parents’ understanding of their role in literacy in the home.
The event will offer also interactive activities for children, free food, free books, resource information fair, raffle prizes and more.
